A summary of the methods and resources you could use to research your chosen target.
The first item to search for could be an obituary. Use Google and put the name of the person and the word “obituary” into the search.

1 Introductions were made and the purpose of the Project was explained – We are looking to research and document the lives of the people buried in the Jewish Cemeteries in Bournemouth. Why did they come to Bournemouth? What did they do and how did this benefit the Bournemouth area? Are there descendants still living in the area? Are there living relatives willing to be interviewed to make an oral history of their family?
2 Jacqui set out the resources that we can access in order to carry out the research to gain the information required for the project. These are listed below along with other resources suggested by a number of the attendees. It was also agreed that if photographs of the people being researched are found a select few may be added to the database.

5 Local Records Offices: – County Records – Schools and places run by the local councils – Estates records – Court records

7 The Welcome Institute – Holds medical records

17 Kelly’s and Mates Directories – available in the Library provides: – Trade Directories Lists are by Type, Alphabetically and by street.

22 Keep a record of your searches so you do not go round in circles
23 Next steps: – We are starting in Boscombe Cemetery and photographs are currently being taken. – The spreadsheets detailing the graves will be sectioned up and lists will be distributed to yourselves so that you can start your research. – Another meeting will be arranged in a few weeks time so that we can share progress experiences hints and tips.
